BLACK IMAGINATION: Jan. 12th (Fri)
Time & Location
About The Event
Co-curated by Natasha Marin, Rachael Ferguson, Amber Flame, and Imani Sims, this black-womxn-led exploration uses technology and storytelling to create a publicly accessible dialogue around black joy, wellness, and creativity. RSVP to attend this experience at CORE in Seattle.
For this special session, Tyisha Nedd and Markeith Wiley will be imbuing the space with interactive movement & dance.
As a teacher and activist, Tyisha has a passion for using dance to empower incarcerated populations, and has taught in The Ohio Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, King County Juvenile Detention Center, and with Seattle artist Pat Graney at Mission Creek Correction Center as part of Keeping the Faith: The Prison Project. In her own artistic work and life, Tyisha uses humor and honesty to incite authentic discussion about race, gender and the tenderness of humanity.
Markeith Wiley is an artist who creates out of necessity. Markeith is curious about life, making him a serial collaborator. In the 2017 Markeith has created a full dance performance in collaboration with Erik Blood, started a monthly DJ event at Vermillion gallery & bar with fellow music enthusiast Alice Gosti & has started a monthly performance party at Studio Current called SC Sessions. He has performed with Keith Henessesy, Kitten n' Lou, The Dance Cartel, Lingo and so many more. His most recent work was seen at On the Boards in November of 2016. Stay tuned for "T-Mon-E" a new solo that will premiere in various venues in Seattle & on the west coast in 2018-2019.
